The Anthurium is one of the few flowering houseplants to produce flowers continuously all year round. Anthurium flowers come in many colours, such as the familiar red, white and pink varieties, but also purple, green and brown. The Anthurium is not only beautiful, but also easy to care for and thereby one of the few flowering houseplants that are suitable for use in an office.

Watering Anthuriums

The Anthurium does not consume a lot of water, but must be kept in soil which is always slightly damp. The soil can dry out a bit from time to time in the winter months. In the summer this indoor plant must be watered more frequently. An Anthurium that has been overwatered will develop brown spots with a yellow edge in the leaves, sometimes on the edge of the leaf. This is caused by root rot, and is the result of a constant layer of water in the pot. If an Anthurium is placed further away from the window and therefore consumes less water, the risk of rot is greater.

Position

Place the Anthurium in a light spot without direct sunlight to achieve optimum flowering. Too much sunlight will result in yellow leaves. Too little sunlight well lead to green flowers or no flowers at all. The ideal position is in front of a north-facing window. For a window that faces west or east, it is best to maintain a distance of one to two metres. A greater distance is possible for a south-facing window, provided that the window is big enough and there is no sun blind.

Anthurium varieties

Mystral®

The range that is suitable for small pot sizes is constantly expanding. These varieties are increasingly becoming all-rounders, and fit well with the high production demands for this segment. An excellent example is Mystral®. A fast-growing plant that produces leaves readily and rapidly develops the heart-shaped flowers above the foliage. This compact plant ultimately produces an impressive number of flowers that retain the colour for a long time.

Joli Pulse

raises your heart rate
The appearance of the new Joli® Pulse gets many people excited. Joli Pulse’s colouring changes as it blooms and grows. The young, recently produced flowers are white, and as the flowers develop the colour changes to pink and ultimately to a fresh shade of green. This is a lively new variety which brings further colour to the Joli series. The variety derives its name ‘Pulse’ from the clearly visible vein on the bract. The flower is marked like a heartbeat.

Spirit

refreshing and playful
With its appealing pink flowers, Spirit® is both cute and eye-catching. This compact Anthurium has a surprising quantity of flowers on the plant, and scores extremely well when it comes to tolerating cold. The various pot sizes mean that Spirit has a variety of uses: there is something to suit every taste. The distinctive colour means that Spirit stands out from afar and draws attention everywhere. The large number of flowers lend colour to the plant and its surroundings.

Rustica

a rustic plant
The dark red colour of the Rustica pot Anthurium combined with the quantity of flowers per plant clearly show off the texture on the plant. The fact that the flowers then stylishly rise above the plant further emphasises this newcomer’s texture.

Livium®

the next generation Anthurium
The red and white striped flowers are so unusual that it seems like a line has been painted across the flowers. The plant’s look and feel are botanical, making it feel like real Anthurium Art. Livium is suitable for pot sizes 14 and 17 cm. The flowers are average-sized, and the main colour is red with clear white veins on the flower.

Esudo®

When all a product’s characteristics are right, we can justifiably call it perfection. Esudo is a fine example of this. The striking red colour of the flowers that are well distributed in large quantities across this pot Anthurium ensure a seductive appearance. Esudo’s physical characteristics score well in terms of colour consistency, cold tolerance during the shipping phase and leaf quality. Esudo therefore guarantees long-term enjoyment both physically and aesthetically. Houwen Plant grows Esudo as a pot Anthurium in pot size 12.

Lilli®

Lilli® is cute, even adorable. This little Anthurium is an exclusive true must-have, and the number of small pink flowers will dazzle you. Lilli can be described as an absolute floral delicacy. The flowers are a sweet macaron colour. The popularity of Lilli confirms its suitability for high-end floral decoration. The possibilities offered by this small Anthurium plant are endless.
