Colorful and versatile

The dahlia is an incredibly versatile flower with a wide range of colors and shapes. Some varieties have solid-colored petals, while others display striking patterns with speckles or stripes. The structure also varies, from flowers with a single row of petals to those with dozens of layers. To showcase this diversity, we visited FAM Flower Farm, a nursery where more than 200 dahlia varieties can be admired.

Origin

of the dahlia
The dahlia is originally a Mexican tuberous plant. Around 1800, with the ‘discovery’ of America, the flower was brought to Europe. The bulb was named in honor of Swedish botanist Andreas Dahl, a student of Linnaeus. Since 1813, professional growers have been cultivating the dahlia.

Colors and shapes

of the dahlia
The most distinctive feature of the dahlia is its petals: sometimes solid-colored, but often brightly patterned with speckles or stripes. Some flowers have just one row of petals, while others consist of multiple layers. This beautiful flower comes in exaggerated color and shape variations, with petals that can be round, spiky, or curled. Some dahlias grow up to 1.5 meters tall and have a flower diameter of more than 20 cm – real eye-catchers!

style trend recentered stage

with Dahlia's
During our visit to FAM Flower Farm we were overwhelmed by the beautiful colors and shapes. We were allowed to go into the field ourselves and pick the most beautiful dahlias, with which our client Conny Klaver created stunning arrangements. One of these arrangements consisted exclusively of dahlias and created a true explosion of color.

This arrangement fits perfectly with the recentered stage style trend. This trend makes extensive use of clear lines, geometric shapes and color planes - elements in which the dahlia comes into its own.

Fam Flower Farm

A paradise for Dahlia lovers

The origins of FAM Flower Farm

One of the best places to admire a vast variety of blooming dahlias is FAM Flower Farm. This nursery was founded by two friends, Marlies and Linda, both married to growers. For years, they watched their husbands cultivate bulbs and tubers without knowing who ultimately enjoyed the flowers.

A mission to connect with flower enthusiasts

To change this, Marlies and Linda joined forces and established FAM Flower Farm. ‘FAM’ stands for family and femininity. Their goal was to connect directly with flower lovers and share their passion for flowers with a wider audience.

Success through Instagram and an online shop

They began spreading their love for flowers through Instagram, an inspirational website, and an online shop. This approach proved to be a success: thousands of flower fans discovered FAM Flower Farm. Their colorful flower posts were enthusiastically received, and more and more people started ordering bulbs and tubers to bring that floral splendor into their own gardens.

Interactive growth and engagement

By sharing photos of their fields and interacting directly with followers, FAM Flower Farm quickly grew into a large community. Marlies and Linda answered questions, provided inspiration, and offered tips to flower lovers. Their passion became not just a business, but also a source of inspiration for many.
