ANSU Vanda is Europe’s premier grower of the exclusive Vanda orchid. With breeding in Thailand and sustainable cultivation in the Netherlands, the company combines craftsmanship, innovation, and environmentally friendly techniques. Through initiatives such as water recirculation and solar energy, ANSU delivers high-quality orchids with minimal environmental impact.

Located in Wateringen, South Holland, ANSU Vanda is the exclusive European supplier of the unique Vanda orchid. This orchid is globally praised for its distinctive aerial roots and vibrant colors. By combining breeding in Thailand with cultivation in the Netherlands, ANSU not only offers a beautiful product but also contributes to sustainability and innovation in the floral industry.

The Vanda

An Exclusive Orchid
The Vanda orchid is a unique plant that stands out due to its aerial roots and vibrant colors. Unlike most plants, the Vanda does not grow in soil but attaches itself to trees, making it a special addition to any interior.

The journey of a Vanda begins in Thailand, where it is bred and selected for special colors and patterns. Developing a new Vanda variant is a time-consuming process that can take up to 15 years. The young plants are then brought to the Netherlands to continue growing and blooming.

Name change

From ANCO to ANSU
Previously known as ANCO, the company changed its name to ANSU in 2019. The first two letters, "AN," refer to the old name, while "SU" is derived from the Thai partner, Suphachadiwong Orchids.

With the motto “Standing out Together”, ANSU highlights its strong partnership and commitment to creating the most exclusive Vandas.

Breeding

the Vanda
There are now over 100 different types of Vandas. Through continuous breeding, more variants are introduced, focusing on durability, productivity, and unique color patterns. Breeding a new Vanda type is a meticulous process that can take up to fifteen years.

The History

of ANSU Vanda
The ANSU story begins with Steef Adrichem, who discovered the remarkable Vanda Blue Magic during a trip to Thailand. Captivated by the orchid, he collaborated with Tamlong Suphachadiwong, a Thai grower specializing in Vandas.

Steef started growing Vandas in his father's rose nursery, but as their popularity grew, the roses were replaced with orchids. Since 2010, Steef has worked with Ed Helderman, a former pepper grower, to meet the increasing demand for Vandas.

Hanging Vandas

in the Greenhouses
Thousands of Vandas hang in the expansive greenhouses of ANSU Vanda, spanning over 6 hectares. The plants grow for about five years in Thailand before being transported to the Netherlands. Once there, they remain in the greenhouse for at least one year to fully develop.

After their first bloom, the Vandas continue to produce new flower stems, with some plants thriving for more than 15 years.
Sustainability as a Core Value

Socially Responsible Cultivation

At ANSU, sustainability is a fundamental part of the business. Through innovative solutions and careful processes, the environmental impact of cultivation is minimized. Key initiatives include:

  • Solar panels to reduce energy consumption.

  • Water recirculation for maximum efficiency and minimal waste.

  • Minimal chemical use to ensure eco-friendly cultivation.

  • Sustainable lighting with combined heat and power systems.

Thanks to these efforts, ANSU has received multiple certifications, including Global GAP, MPS-A, MPS-SQ, and Plant Proof.
