He analyzes reports, identifies areas for improvement, and seeks opportunities to cut costs or streamline work processes. A Jack-of-all-trades with a financial perspective

What exactly does a Business Controller do? Joppe explains: "My core responsibilities involve gaining control over financial processes and maintaining or creating an overview. I analyze all financial reports I receive from the IT department and discuss them with the relevant colleagues. For example, I might review a transport report with our transport manager: why have certain costs increased or decreased? What are the causes, and how can we optimize further?

Besides these analyses, I also assess the financial impact of various business processes and look for ways to improve efficiency. This could mean speeding up processes or simplifying administrative tasks. Ultimately, everything revolves around the same goal: growing the company and keeping it financially healthy." In addition, Joppe is involved in budget management and implementing new regulations, such as the CSRD directive on sustainability.

An open and direct company culture

Since financial analysis and process optimization play a role in almost every department, Joppe interacts with many colleagues. By now, he feels completely at home in Heemskerk Flowers' company culture. "It’s a big difference from my previous employer, but I really like it. Everyone is open, honest, and direct. The lines of communication are short, and doors are literally open. That’s exactly what I expected from a family business, and I really enjoy it. I’m quite direct myself, so it suits me perfectly."

Besides the business aspects, Joppe also values the informal atmosphere. "It’s simply a great company to work for. On Friday afternoons at 3:00 PM, the beer tap opens, and the cafeteria becomes a lively place. That says it all!"

Who is Joppe outside of work?

Apart from his role as a Business Controller, Joppe is also a husband and father to two boys, Joep and Vic. He is a true sports enthusiast, playing football every week with his friends' team in Noordwijk and coaching his son’s football team. He also enjoys watching various sports on TV but relaxes just as much with a good Scandinavian thriller.

During vacations, Joppe can often be found at a campsite on the French coast, enjoying the sun, sea, and relaxation with his family and friends. "It’s my perfect holiday: being outdoors, having fun with the kids, and reading a good book now and then."
