What is a Bonsai?

A Bonsai is not just a tree; it is a work of art that represents natural beauty. Literally translated, Bonsai means: potted tree. Grown mainly in the Far East, these living works of art are reminiscent of an ancient, majestic tree.

Care of the Bonsai

Indoor bonsai are used to a constant temperature while outdoors need the seasons with their rest and growth periods.

Water a Bonsai when the soil starts to dry up (in a normal location, this is about every two days). Always make sure that the root ball fills up well; excess water runs out of the pot via the bottom.

Nutrition

Every Bonsai needs certain substances to maintain its systems. The best way is to use solid or liquid Bonsai nutrition. Solid nutrition is pressed into the soil and dissolves with the watering. Liquid nutrition is mixed through the watering. Handle the dosage as indicated on the packaging. Indoor bonsai grows all year and therefore needs nutrition all year round. Outdoor bonsai only need nutrition during the growing season, from March to September.

Stand

Indoor Bonsai was grown in South China and is used to an annual temperature between 12 and 30 degrees Celsius. Therefore, it is ideally suited for indoor placement. If the outside temperature is higher than 12 degrees, the bonsai can also stand very well outdoors. Outdoor bonsai can stand outside all year round and also freeze. At temperatures colder than -5 Celsius, it is advisable to put the bonsai out of the sun and wind in a sheltered spot.

Bonsai need light to grow well. So place a Bonsai in a bright spot, possibly with some direct sunlight.

Conscious attitude

Our partner Oriental is MPS A+, GAP and SQ certified. For example, their nursery is heated with residual heat from the E-on and they work very closely with all organisations to allow for a proper import process from Asia.
