Protea grows in subtropical to tropical conditions featuring warm days with plenty of sun and cool nights. The flower is now also being grown on other continents, so that Protea is increasingly easy to buy throughout the year.

Protea in a bouquet

Protea Brenda

Brenda is an elegant Protea with a bright lilac colour. This idiosyncratic variety offers fantastic looks in shades of pink, red, white and gold. Availability: June - August, November - February.

Protea Waratah

Protea Waratah is breathtakingly beautiful. Its season may be short, but during that short period Protea Waratah shines twice as brightly. Protea Waratah is known for its fabulous red colour and symmetrical head made up of cylindrical flowers. Availability: March, October.

Protea Barbigera

This Protea is also known as the Queen of the Proteas. It’s a large, woolly flower with unique shape. It comes in many different colours, from very pale cream to salmon, pink and even dark red. Availability: August - November.
Protea’s characteristics

The Protea is characterised by the white mass of stamens and the large colourful petals. The colours of the petals range from pale to dark pink, with white and saffron around the flower.

It’s no surprise that the Protea symbolises diversity, since there are hundreds of varieties. Each variety has its own style and shape. Some flowers can reach a size of 35 cm! We have chosen a number of varieties to introduce to you.
